그동안 비교적 표현이 긴 상담 관련 문장들을 공부해왔다, 오늘은 보다 짧은 문장으로 상담하는 요령을 공부해보자.

Parent: How much do taekwondo lessons cost?
        (태권도 회비는 얼마죠?)
Master: We ①charge a hundred thousand won a month.
        (한 달에 십만 원입니다.)
        And ②a uniform is included in the first month's ③fees.
        (도복은 첫 달 회비에 포함되어 있습니다.)
Parent: Are there ④any other charges?
        (다른 비용 드는 것이 있나요?)
Master: Yes, we charge an additional fee when your child ⑥take an exam ⑦to              graduate to another belt
        (네, 띠가 올라갈 때 심사를 보는데 그때 별도의 비용을 받습니다.)
Parent: What are ⑧testing fees?
        (심사비는 얼마죠?)
Master: These testing fees ⑨can be ten thousand won or more.
        (심사비는 만원에서 그 이상 들기도 합니다.)
        It depends on the color of the belt.
        (띠 색깔에 따라 다릅니다.)
Parent: Why is that so?
        (왜 그렇지요?)
Master: For example, a black-belt test is ⑩much more involved exam and
        often has a number of ⑪expenses tied to for various levels of associations          and the school.
        (예를 들어, 검은 띠 심사는 다른 띠보다 준비하는 것이 많고, 여러 레벨의 협회와          도장과 관계된 비용이 있습니다.)
        For that reason, you ⑫can expect to pay one hundred and twenty thousand           won for the first black-belt exam.
        (그렇기 때문에 초단 심사는 십이 만원을 내게 되는 것 입니다.)

〈풀이〉
① charge= 동사로 ‘요금을 받다’, ‘청구하다’
② (A) is included= (A)라는 사물이 포함되다
③ fees= 회비 (‘dues’ 또는  ‘tuition’으로 대체해 쓸 수 있다.)
④ any other charges= 또 다른 비용 (여기서 charge는 ①의 경우와는 달리 명사로 쓰임)
⑤ charge an additional fee= 별도의 비용을 청구하다 (여기서는 charge가 다시 동사로 쓰임)
⑥ take an exam= 시험을 보다, 응시하다
⑦ to graduate to another belt= 다른 띠로 올라가기 위해 (보통 ‘graduate from~ =~를     졸업하다’로 많이 쓰인다. 이 문장에서는 전치사 ‘to’를 써서 ‘다음 단계로 올라가다’로      표현해야 한다.
⑧ testing fees= testing-fee charges
⑨ can be~= ~이 될 수 있다
⑩ much more involved exam= (직역) 훨씬 많은 것이 포함된 시험
⑪ expenses tied to for= ~에 묶여 있는, 관계된 비용들
⑫ can expect to pay~= ~을 지불하게 되다 (굳이 ‘expect’를 ‘기대하다’라고 직역할 필요     없다.)
