You may start the crane stance (hakdari seogi) from the posture of juchum seogi. Spread your feet apart about two-foot length wide in parallel. Lower your knees to the point your knees are vertical to your toes. Now, lift one of your feet, bring it close to the inner side of the balancing foot, and attach it lightly to its knee. Make sure your balancing foot is flat on the floor and your lifted foot should be ready to kick to any direction - whether to the front, side, or back - with the foot blade raised. This stance is often used for the purpose of a swift counterattack waiting for your opponent's next move.
